Meet Krew

Krew birth story begins about a week before I actually gave birth. I had been having contractions for weeks but nothing painful or consistent. Dev and I really wanted this baby to come a little before Christmas so I was trying everything to induce labor. On the evening of Tuesday December 6th I started having really consistent contractions... like 5 min apart contractions. And although they still weren't very painful they were a lot stronger than the contractions I had been having for the past month. I thought for sure that I was in labor and even started to time my contractions... 3 straight hours of contractions that were 5 min apart... but still no pain. I figured if this was the real deal that I would probably be in a bit more pain so I went to bed and the waiting game began. For the next week I had consistent contractions 5-7min apart... they were definitely strong but still really didn't hurt too badly... just really uncomfortable. I thought once or twice about going into labor and delivery, called my OB's office a few times, but still no pain and no baby anywhere in sight. I think I cried every day the last week of my pregnancy... I was so uncomfortable, and just wanted my baby to be here so badly. It seemed like all these contractions were just teasing me and I felt like I was never going to go into actual labor. On Tuesday December 13th I went in to my OB's office for my weekly checkup. luckily all the contractions I had been having weren't for nothing... I was dilated to 4cm and 90% effaced... I was literally ecstatic that at least some progress was being made! My doctor stripped my membranes and I went home a little more hopeful that this sweet baby was going to be here soon... and boy was I right! I woke up at 5am on Tuesday December 14th to a really strong painful contraction.... and then another one came.... and another one. After only 3 painful contractions that were 4-5min apart I woke Devin up and we headed straight for the Hospital. We didn't wait around or try to time my contractions... I just knew that this was the real deal and that my baby boy was coming soon. in the 10min it takes to drive to the hospital my contractions went from being slightly painful, to really painful. When we got to the hospital I was at 5cm and 100% effaced so they offered me an epidural right away. Oh what sweet relief that epidural is... literally a gift straight from heaven in my mind. Dev was a sweetheart and held my hand for the 5min I had to hold completely still to get the epidural which seems like the absolute worst thing in the world while having a contraction, but luckily I made it through it and my epidural kicked in right away. I was completely numb... it was absolutely fabulous. Dev actually had a school final that morning so at around 8:00am he left to quickly try and take his test and be back before our baby was born. Luckily he had a really nice teacher that let him take the test another day once he found out I was in labor. he was back about 45min later and we were able to sit back, relax, eat cherry lime ice chips, and call family before our little Krew was born. At about 10am a lady came in to ask if I wanted to be apart of a study on fetal monitoring during labor, but to our surprise I was already 8cm... too far along to participate... so instead the doctor broke my water and said that since I was so comfortable he was going to do a surgery and that he would be back in about an hour and a half and then we could start pushing. It blows my mind how peaceful our babies delivery was. I was thinking it was going to be a big crazy thing like what I was used to seeing on TV... but it wasn't at all... it was perfect. I even remember telling the nurse that this was so chill and not at all what I expected. There wasn't a ton of nurses in the room in fact there was only 1 doctor and 1 nurse, and I wasn't screaming or even in any pain. they would tell me when to push and I would focus and push my little heart out, and then we would all relax and chat in between contractions. Dev was right by my side and held my numb little leg up for me, and we were able to enjoy our little baby coming into the world. While I was pushing through a contraction the doctor reached up and pushed down on my stomach slightly and about 2 seconds later I heard crying... the sweetest sound I've ever heard. It was just enough to pop the kid right out of me. They pulled him out and put him straight on my stomach. I looked up at Dev and we both started crying. I held Krew's tiny little hands and feet while Dev cut the cord. He was absolutely perfect in every way. After letting me hold on to him for a little bit they took him to weigh and measure, and said that he was a completely healthy baby and a perfect 10 on the APGAR scale. They brought him back to us a few min later and we were able to just sit as a new little family and hold our little Krew. He's the sweetest thing to ever happen to us, and its amazing how much love he has brought into our home. Sometimes we just sit and stare at him. This whole process is seriously a miracle, and I'm amazed everyday that my body was able to create this perfect little person. I feel so blessed to be a mother... and even though the battle of sleep has begun, I am so blessed to have such an amazing husband and father right by my side who rocks our baby to sleep at 4am, and helps out in every way possible so that I can rest and recover. We love our new little family. And we love our sweet little Krew.
