Confessions of a Wanna-be Runner

So I've been training for this 5k next month and I'm sad to say that I may not make it... not because I cant run 3 miles but because my dang knee is giving up on me! I have never had any kind of knee problems ever in my entire life but as of recently I have had this sharp pain on the outside side of my knee after running about a mile. I've been icing it everytime after I run, but im not sure if I should stop running on it as to not cause more damage. If anyone has ever had knee problems and could let me know if this is something I can do to help this that would be great! And as of right now... I guess I will just be sticking with the Eliptical for my cardio work outs since the impact is really low.

Hey! this is hailey, nathan's wife:) I look at your blog! And I love your title with the snapshots... how did you do that? and How do you get your pictures soooooo big??? I'd sure love any advice! and speaking of advice, I come from a long line of families with knee problems!! ahhhh annoying, but any exercise that strengthens the knee will help, squats, lunges with both legs bent(almost like you are getting ready to run legs apart and squat straight down), and their is a machine where you put the weight on your feet and lift it up- that's the best one! anyway, hope that helps. But if is doesn't, you probably won't be running any marathons:)

I would think it's the type of shoes you run on and how you hit the ground when you run. If you're not sprinting you should do heal toe, heal toe. Then when you sprint you should be all toes. Maybe that will help?
